Brendan has created two replacements of text.rsc, the file that is responsible for all the dialogs and messages. This is the first one. Among the Daggerfall mods, these files are among the smallest downloads, and definitely the easiest to install and uninstall.
I want to thank you for downloading my work for this now very old, but much beloved game by Bethesda. Had I gotten my hands on DF several years ago, I could have done much the same work and possibly been lauded by the DF community for my supreme artistry, thus caught the attention of Bethesda, and worked on TES III: Morrowind as a low-paid but giddily happy dialogue and message writer living under the desk of my cubicle in the basement where I was placed to keep my delirious ramblings from disturbing Julian LeFey, who would have threatened on several occasions to bludgeon me to death with a daedric warhammer or a toaster, whichever was easier to get his hands on. But all's well that ends well.
In expanding the text of the game I've added some humor, some mood, and lots of variety, though the meanings have stayed fairly true to the original. Vamp lovers can delight in the "(name here) was drained of blood last night" rumor dialogues, which are now rather funny. There's really not much I haven't revamped. I did use a little of Dave Humphrey's work, but it's a very small percentage of the overall bulk totaling about 120kb of new text. This is still, however, just the Preview Edition and I'm still hunting down little oversights and overhauling things. I hope to have variable biographies for each of the 17 standard classes to make things interesting. You see, my computer can't play Morrowind and I what with college and my mother's kidney operation I can't buy a new computer. DF Modding is all I have
Note, however, that the comedic slant of this version is often times self-referential, making inside jokes about the game and its quirks. A more serious 'straight' version is currently in the works. Until then, suspension of disbelief may suffer in your gaming experience when using BrenRSC1.
The serious "straight" version mentioned in the text above is Brendan2.rsc and can be found here as well.
