A small cliff dwelling set high in the
side of a mesa. The people there, called the Ciphers,
seem like any other group of tribals. In reality,
they're quite skilled in science. They hold onto their
secret knowledge in preparation for the day they are
once again worthy to use it. The schematics for many a
forgotten device is painted all over the village
walls, but the few travelers that visit the village
are unaware of the significance, dismissing the
scribblings as "tribal art".
At a certain point, the Vipers under their leader Drake
besiege Mesa Verde.
To get past them, the PC has to fight them, sneak past
them or at least pretend to be on their side.
People
Azkee
The Counter of Mesa Verde. The Counter's duty is to decide who
may stay in Mesa Verde, and who must leave, since Mesa Verde can
only support a small number of the Ciphers. The rest roam the
wasteland as nomads. A stupid character will refer to Askee as
the "bald leader guy".
Denom
He's in charge of overseeing the crops, as well as keeping the
wind turbine and condensors running, which is how Mesa Verde gets
its water.
Isaac
A former member of the Brotherhood of Steel. He still has his
old power armor and will exchange it for a GECK. It isn't possible
to find a GECK in the game, but he will take a holodisk with
information about it instead.
Nemonik
This is more a title than a name. He (?) is the keeper of
memory, the teacher of the Ritual, in which the Ciphers seek to
emulate a computer. Nemonik is the key to understanding what
Mesa Verde is all about.
Radian
He is radiated. The player can heal him, or give him a
powerful painkiller instead, to which Radian will become addicted.
A player siding with the Vipers can now pressure him into
sabotaging the wind turbine.
Trig
The resident artisan. She has constructed some sort of laser
death cannon to use on the Vipers, but it doesn't work due to
defective capacitators. The player can find another set of
capacitors at Fort Abandon and help her repair the cannon.
The results will be extremely impressive, but the cannon will
be completely fried in the process.
Quests
There are PIPBoy entries for four quests, Bring a Geck,
Trig's Death Cannon, Radian's Illness, and Wind Turbine
Sabotage, all of them already described in the People
section.
